We all know that we will get home sick after a few months of school even though at first we couldnt wait leaving from home. To get home you need to find a ticket. Yes, sometimes you might spend any amount of money just to get home to good food and your friends and family. But for most of us the price of the ticket is a major hurdle to overcome while planning the trip home. In the beginning I did my research online and found sites like Kayak.com or Sidestep.com. Also, Studentuniverse.com is a good resource for finding cheaper plane tickets for students. For that website you need to sign up with your school email address and provide proof that you are still a student at that school. The proof usually is a print screen of the courses you are involved in. The button for the print screen is on the top right. After you press that button, go into Paint and hit CTRL+V and you will see the image of your screen pasted in paint. You go to File>Save as and make sure you save it as a JPEG, otherwise BMP file format is too large to be attached in a regular email. Dont be quick to buy the ticket because it looks like it has a good price. First, do the research on the airlines websites and check out what the airline gives you for a price directly. In the past years Sidestep and Kayak were always providing me a better price than the airlines directly but recently Ive noticed that the airlines themselves have started to provide better overall fairs. So from now on do your research and you might find out that you can save over $400 on a flight you were about to pay $1200 to go home. Your parents are going to be proud of you when you tell them how much you saved on the plane ticket. Trust me!
Also, the basic idea is to be flexible with the dates. The more flexible you are the better chance you have of getting a better deal. Buying a ticket early is the safe way to go, but sometimes you might get lucky and get a great deal just weeks before your departure date because someone canceled their ticket and the airline company has to fill the plane to make it cost efficient for them to fly.
Good luck finding the cheapest (not always the best) flight for your needs!
