When I came to college I had no idea what a freshmen dorm is like. To be honest I never really thought much about it. All I knew was that I was going to live in a room with a roommate in a building with other students and that I was going to have to share a bathroom. As it turned out, there is so much more to living in a freshmen dorm than that. It was an experience which I will treasure forever and most likely never forget. In my mind the best thing about a freshmen dorm is that in the beginning everyone is in the same position no one knows anyone else. Like this it is pretty easy to meet a lot of people rather fast. As with so many other things in college I suggest to be very open towards and accepting of other people. Throughout the year I made friends with a lot of people, growing close with many of them. It seems that when you live with people youre going to get very close with them a lot faster than we you dont live together. Ive made friendships in one year that I only had very few of before coming to college. Because of this, I also experienced so many memorable moments my freshmen year. These include coming back to my dorm late on weekends, and running into friends who also had a fun night, or just hanging out in someones room not doing much and simply waste time. I feel like the students who lived in my dorm freshmen year all have created a pretty strong bond amongst each other that still lasts today. To have a similar experience your freshmen year you will need to be ready to accept people who are different from you and just be open to new things, and just being about to enjoy yourself and everything around you. At first this isnt easy, especially if you are not used to living away from home. During those times I always tried to remember that everyone else is in the same position as I am. Once I got used to everything, I really had the time of my life. Clearly I had to give up luxuries I was used from living at home, but I wouldnt change anything about my freshmen dorm. I probably wouldnt want to experience it a second time, but Im glad I was able to experience it once. Its simply a wonderful experience.
