On Wednesday, March 26 Bentley showcases service projects with communities near and far. The day will feature opportunities for the Bentley community to actively participate in service campaigns, learn more about ongoing programs initiated by students, faculty and staff, and hear from four remarkable Tunisian women who will participate in a panel session focused on the challenges faced by women in North Africa. Their discussion will explore how commitment to service and activism has contributed to the successes and continued struggle to guarantee basic human rights for Arab-Muslim women in independent Tunisia.
Service Day Activities
A Service Showcase at the Smith Academic Center will highlight more than 75 Bentley individuals and student organizations who participate in service initiatives in local and global communities.
A special Service Day t-shirt, designed and distributed by Bentley students, will be sold to fund educational packets that will be donated to designated charity groups in local communities and in developing countries. The Bentley community will assemble the packets on campus throughout the day.
Led by the Greek organizations on campus, students will also hold a Bentley logo t-shirt drive to gather over 4,000 t-shirts to be donated to various nonprofit sites in the local Waltham and Boston areas, as well as to other parts of the world. This is a unique person-to-person product exchange as each t-shirt donated will bear the college's name as a symbol of institutional pride and sharing.
As part of Bentley's ongoing partnership with the Mmofra Trom Children's Center in Ghana, Africa, students are developing a marketing plan for distribution of kiln-fired beads made by the children at the Center. On Service Day, the Bentley community will help string thousands of these signature beads into bracelets, in preparation for delivering samples to jewelry outlets.
